one spot pain

by Jill Barnett

I have one spot that troubles me and I can put my finger directly on it. It is just below waist level, at the back, just towards my left hip. I notice it 'grabbing' e.g. after driving and getting out of that 'sitting position' Walking does ease it - it is not a continual pain - just something that grabs me as if being pinched!

one spot of pain

From the sounds of it Jill, you have an inflamed facet joint, although it's not clear to me whether you are feeling the facet joint itself pinching when you move, or the muscles bunching up around it to protect it. Either way, the facet joint is the cause and the muscle reaction is secondary.
You can try mobilising it with a tennis ball. To do this you lie flat on your back on the floor with your knees bent. Lift your bottom and place the tennis ball under the sore spot. Then you roll around on it minutely. You only do this for a minute or two and only once or twice a week. If this does not work then I suggest you make an appointment and come and see us in the Sydney clinic.
