nagging hip pain
by: Sarah

Tom,
I don't know what happened but yours and a few other postings seem to get under my guard. So, if not it's not too late I will reply now to your question.
You will see that sitting is one of the most vexing things for a spine. It telescopes the spinal segments down on to one another, while at the same time the pressure of the seat coming up through the spine adds to the compression.
What is unusual is that the discomfort is going into the hip, which means that it must be pain referred from one of the higher lumbar segments, if indeed it is not coming from the hip itself.
You might like to read section here from www.simple backpain.com about the trouble with sitting. And if your wife is a computer user there is a section to there on the upper back.
I hope this is helpful and again I'm very sorry for the oversight on my behalf.
Sarah
