Herniated disc

by Carol

Dear Sarah,
As a long time fan, I am familiar with your philosophy on self treatment but have a sister living in Melbourne who suffered a herniated disc last year. Improvement has been slow after hospitalization & rehab & surgery has been recommended. Consequently she is very cautious about doing anything other than gentle physio & exercise. Can your treatment help her recover & avoid surgery? We would both like to attend a week workshop.
Thankyou, Carol from Perth WA

Herniated disc
by: Sarah says

Dear Carol,
Dont let her even think of surgery to fix this. Read what I say about disc bulges and disc herniations and how frequently the problem is not the problem and how often the disc 'pathology' seen on scans is a false positive. Of course, sight unseen, I may be wrong about this but usually she should not be being gentle with herself; she should be tackling this head on and seeing off the function fault that it locking up the spinal segment and causing the compression. It is the compression that is causing the bulge.
I's be delighted to look after you both at the next Back-in-a-Week.
Sarah
