reading these Testimonials of Sarah Key's Health Retreat Back-in-a-Week may just Persuade You This is Where You Should Go

February 2016 (Jill)

Thanks Sarah for your expertise, energy and enthusiasm at your recent BIAW.

My symptoms of buttock, leg and foot pain have improved significantly; I now experience them occasionally rather than daily. I recently did a 10km walk --and on another day-- a 40km bike ride.

I have been using my back block every evening, although initially, I found it difficult to get the rate right and overdid the exercises. I’m also doing the other exercises you recommended including the Grade 4 intrinsics.

As well as the big improvement in my symptoms, Terry and I had a wonderful break and loved the food, setting and temporary isolation.

The wonderful thing about your approach, Sarah, is that it all makes sense. It is staggering that more practitioners don’t understand and talk about the biomechanics and hydraulics of backs in the way that you do.  By the end of our stay, I felt I had a clear understanding of the causes of my back pain and was confident about managing my own recovery.  It was exciting to think that I might be able to resume doing some of the physical activities I had given up for fear of worsening my back.

I recommend your BIAW to anyone who has intractable back pain and wants a clear path to overcoming their back problems.

Usually I never write testimonials-I never quite believe something can be too good to be true, until I went to Back in a Week- that is!

From the moment you arrive to when you leave you are cared for like a cross between royalty and coming home - although like a home you have never known before.

The setting, the accommodation, the food, the company and the peace of being away from your normal routine, was all amazing. However that is secondary to why you are there, in a leap of faith, to get your back or anything else not right, ’fixed” by Sarah.

So after 25 years of numerous physio, acupuncture, yoga, stretching, massages, chiropractors, x- rays and buckets of nurafin, I was assessed and treated by Sarah over 4 days. She treated my back, my neck, my feet, my knees. For the first time ever; the intermittent pain, the stiffness, the x-rays made sense, as explained by Sarah. Sarah treated MY problems that were unique to me, as she did to all that attended the week.

We also had lectures on backs each day, which were more like sitting and having a chat to a best friend. We also did a stretching class every afternoon, which were simple, effective and so doable and relevant, compared to past exercises given to me by various health professionals.

So now where I am 6 months after the back in a week course? Well . . .

  • The decision to go to back in a week ranks as 1 of my best 10 decisions ever in 51 years
  • I have tried and true simple exercises that if do most nights to keep all pain and stiffness away, they feel so good to so
  • My back and neck and knees and feet are stronger and feel better than ever
  • I no longer rush around to try a new physio, read a new book, or a different massage, there is no need. The answer is seeing Sarah and then following up with exercises at home that target your problems.
  • I cannot recommend any higher, either attending Back in a Week or booking an appointment with Sarah in her Sydney rooms. It's a decision you will not regret.

Back in a week changed my life. It is 2 years since I went to the Scone property. I have severe scoliosis and spondylolythesis and was visiting the chiropractor every week, but since ‘Back In A Week’ I have not been back once. It’s just amazing. Sarah taught me how to treat myself and sometimes I forget the tricks, but then I watch the Back app and remember I can lay on my side, dig my fingers and knuckles into the sore points, and later in the day I realize I feel much better. I still get back pain but I am able to relieve it with her regime. I use the back block every night, often not the full routine, it depends how my back if feeling. I have the occasional voltaren tablet.

I am 71, and over the past 45 years I have suffered with a bad back. I had electrical acupuncture for a long time, osteopaths, massage and physios. Having spondololythesis I had been told I could end up in a wheelchair and that’s when I saw Sarah Key on television and decided to give ‘Back In A Week’ a go. I went with an open mind and accepted everything she said with confidence, it was the best time and money I have ever spent. She gives personal intensive therapy for 5 days and “heels” away your stiff joints, and taught me why I have my back pain and what I have to do to help it. She has a beautiful property with luxurious rooms and fabulous meals. I can’t remember all the things she taught me, but that’s where her book and the app comes in. Once I got the hang of it, what to do and not do, my back no longer ruled my life and I know I can stop further degeneration.

Thank you Sarah Key. I recommend her to anyone who is in real trouble with their back. She has the answers, and you really can relieve your own back pain. I have seen her 3 times since my BIAW 2 years ago and she tweaks my stubborn spots. As you can tell, I love the Sarah Key treatment and I will be forever grateful to her for giving me back a normal future.

December 2014 (Corrie)

Having suffered from scoliosis for half my life, I am no stranger to being shunted between physiotherapists, osteopaths and masseurs. I really thought that the back ache and cracking would be something I would carry for the rest of my life. When my mother told me about a book she read by Sarah Key, I was hesitant but eventually agreed to attend the Back in a Week program. Set in the beautiful Upper Hunter Valley with boutique accommodation and a personal chef it sets up a wonderful and caring atmosphere. The week consists of a personal diagnosis and treatment by Sarah with exercises classes and learning how to look after your back for the rest of your life. I now feel empowered to take my back into my own hands and no longer accept that back pain has to be a part of my life. Thankyou Sarah!

I can honestly say that attending BIAW was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

If you are reading the testimonials and wondering, then I strongly recommend signing up as soon as possible. At BIAW you will receive a very generous amount of Sarah’s own time in treatment of your problems; a series of lectures explaining how backs work, why things go wrong and what can be done to fix them; and you will even get a PowerPoint session explaining your own troubles and specific things you can do.

This is not quackery. Belatedly, but better than never, peer-reviewed journals are accepting the understanding Sarah had gained from 40 years practical experience and her research in writing her books. Her academic writings are a collaboration with a Professor of Biomechanics from Bristol.

At a personal level, since BIAW I have been using the back block daily and doing selected other exercises, specifically diagnosed. I have never felt better or more flexible.
As if that were not enough, I happened to mention to Sarah in passing, two other problems I had been living with for many years – puffy fingers after exercise, and a regular swelling of my left knee.

Sarah actually had suggestions for a cause and possible cures for both, and to my amazement, neither has since recurred. The puffiness has been addressed by using the back block in thoracic position, and the knee has been fixed by patella manipulation, leg swinging, and, oh yes, not to forget, those deep squats...

[Which deep squats? Those ones that are supposed to be good for your back and your knees – utterly, utterly impossible at first. But slowly, and with the new knowledge of how to get the resultant knee swelling down, I keep trying... Ringing in my ears is Sarah’s promise that ‘the further down you go the less it hurts’, and ‘keep trying, in a few weeks your knees will actually like it’. Blow me down, change ‘weeks’ to ‘two months’ and its all true!]

I do not delude myself that the future will always stay this rosy. But those anxious moments of deep foreboding and dread that I had felt when bedridden with acute back episodes prior to BIAW, are now gone. With understanding comes confidence and a calm assessment of what to do.

BIAW comes packaged with a beautiful motel type room, delicious meals, relaxing timetables, fireside chats, great company – but optional and not tiring, and even your poet of choice.

As I reflect on what this Back in a Week experience has meant for me, I am reminded of a story entitled “The Sea Lion who had Lost the Sea”. The story is about a sea lion who lived in the desert, in a little oasis, shaded by a palm tree. He had not always lived there, but had ended up there after a huge tsunami dumped him there. Life was not bad in the water he had available, but somehow he retained just the faintest memories of the sea, his original birthplace and hunting ground, his friends, and what life a full life he had lead there. He sensed some kind of a yearning for something he had lost, although over time, he just got on with things as best he could, and the memories began to fade. data-custom-mark="true"His companion, the tortoise, tried to convince him that the desert was all there was, but after a storm which took away the last vestiges of water from his desert hidey-hole, the sea lion set out on his epic journey to rediscover the sea. His journey was long and fraught with danger and the likelihood of failure, but against all odds, he persisted and in the unerring way an arrow might find its mark, he made his way back to the sea.

This story parallels, on some ways, the journey I have taken at Back-in-a-Week. I was in the desert, in a confined space through my back pain, and had almost forgotten the freedom and sheer joy of an earlier life of unrestricted movement and the capacity to get my body to do anything I wanted without even thinking about it. Weathering and navigating my way through many medically induced storms, led me back to the sea – in this case, to Sarah and the beautiful environment of Fernleigh. The experience has been nothing short of transformational- and I do not use that term lightly. Because to me it involves profound change in body mind and spirit.

Sarah attended to the body with her healing hands, and in the process, I realised I had tried to ‘disconnect’ myself from my back, seeing my troublesome spine and its attendant pain as a nuisance I had to either ignore or put up with. Sarah gently encouraged me to invite it back into my life and to treat it with both respect and compassion, trusting it to heal and respond in the amazing way of which it was capable. This time at Fernleigh has also made my spirit sing, with the enveloping safety and almost womb-like sanctuary of the hills, and the luxurious comfort of the beds, the gastronomic delights being just some of the peripherals helping this process. The wonderful people I have met and the treatments we have both enjoyed or endured on occasion have given me huge encouragement and hope for the future. Coming to BIAW has been a gift I have given to myself. It would have to rate as one of the best in my life. Thank you so much, Sarah and Ruve. Not only have I found the sea, but I can swim again!
